Our Response to COVID-19: Practicing Responsible Real Estate

This illustration, created at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reveals ultrastructural morphology exhibited by coronaviruses. Note the spikes that adorn the outer surface of the virus, which impart the look of a corona surrounding the virion, when viewed electron microscopically. A novel coronavirus, named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019. The illness caused by this virus has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

To our community,

We know the last week has brought many challenges from earthquakes and aftershocks to canceled events and national warnings. We hope you are all settling into your new routines and taking care of one another.

Our commitment to you is unchanged; we will continue to guide everyone closer to the American Dream of owning property, building wealth, and enjoying home security.

Adapting to Market Changes

As we all face a period of uncertainty, rest assured the BRE team is monitoring the market closely and will continue to keep you informed without adding to the noise.

Here’s our advice, based on what we know right now:

  • Explore your options: Rates are at an all-time low—as they were before COVID-19 became a household term—which makes it a great time to consider your next big move. In the last 7 days, a total of 270 homes are under contract in Salt Lake County with the average DOM (Days on Market) being 18.25 days, so know that the market is continuing to move, and we are keeping a close eye on it.

  • Strive for Home Ownership: Owning a home gives you security and certainty during the most uncertain times, and ensures you are not affected by the whims of landlords. Plus, it keeps you protected from an investor wanting to move back into their house or sell their house in response to economic changes.

  • Don’t Be Afraid to Be Bold: It’s likely that many buyers will be hesitant to move forward with their real estate goals, so now is a great time to be thoughtful in your decision making and take the next step in your real estate journey.

Supporting Local Businesses

It has been reported that local businesses are suffering as a result of social distancing. Although it is important that we all do our part to ensure the safety of others by staying home, there are still ways you can show your local entrepreneurs some love!

  • Buy gift cards to your favorite local shops and restaurants now to use later.

  • Continue to show your support by shopping online from local retailers or ordering takeout from your favorite places.

  • Leave positive reviews and kind social media comments to your favorite businesses. A little love goes a long way right now, and it’s important to band together in these trying times.

Practicing Responsible Real Estate

If you are in the process of selling your home or still considering your options to buy, we understand that the show(ings) must go on, and we are here to help you.

The health and well-being of our clients and Realtors® are paramount at this time, and we have implemented the following precautions to ensure showings remain safe for all:

  • At this time we are conducting appointment-only showings.

  • At each showing, disinfectant wipes will be provided and buyers and Realtors® will be required to wear booties.

  • We will ask that buyers and Realtors® opt for a virtual tour if they or anyone they know has traveled to high-risk areas in the last 60 days.

  • We will continue to discourage any unnecessary contact with the home and instruct buyers and Realtors® to wipe down any areas they touch such as handles, doorknobs, etc.

  • In addition, our team has closed the office to the public for the time being while we practice social distancing as per the local and federal government suggestions.

We are actively monitoring Utah’s efforts for containment and will adjust our tactics as necessary based on the timely updates they are making.

Care and community are and always have been at the center of everything we do here at Blakemore Real Estate, and our team is committed to taking all precautions necessary for the safety of you and your family. We will continue to closely monitor all updates from the CDC, work remotely, wash our hands, and practice social distancing—we encourage you all to do what you need to take care of yourself!
